Oh my gaaaaad! I’m buying music again? Well… yeah. Deal with it.
I headed over to Canadian Tire this morning with Sarah to pick out a new faucet for the kitchen. We found exactly what we needed within a few minutes and our exit timed nicely with the opening of our local mission thrift. Hmmm…. it might be a good idea to see what music they have. I mean, I’ll need something to listen to while I install it, right?
All of the CD were $2 moosebucks each, unless you spot a red tag. Then it was 75 cents.
The ’90s metal collection got a nice boost:

Pantera’s The Great Southern Trendkill isn’t my fav of theirs but it was the last I needed to complete the collection. And someone dumped out of their Tool collection. I never been much of a fan in the past but I’ll give the CDs a spin. Sometimes having the album gives you a different perspective. I don’t know why. Anyway, if I don’t enjoy these I’m sure someone in our group will appreciate them.
The Canadian collection got a nice boost as well:

The Burton Cummings album is a live concert from the ’90s. It looks like he performs most of his hits on it. I have already listened to The Northern Pikes Neptune and it is solid. Sarah’s keen eye spotted Skydiggers Northern Shore. It is a Deluxe edition with 3 extra CDs of music.

Crazy! If I read the internet right, this was a special order set that was only available on their website in 2012.
I found a couple of soundtracks:

I still haven’t seen Trainspotting but I know a lot of the music from it. Animal House is a pure classic.
Next:

I’ve never seen this John Lennon tribute album before. Should make for an interesting listen. Cheap Trick does Cold Turkey on it. Tom Petty’s Southern Accents and Billy Joel’s River of Dreams are not best album from either artist, but both are fine for a cheap CD addition to the collection.
Rod Stewart CDs are fairly easy to find:

As long as it isn’t one of those albums loaded with old standards, I’ll add it. Vagabond Heart has Broken Arrow and The Motown Song on it so… must buy? Yeah, I think so.
And here is what Sarah got:

I remember buying Adrenalize on cassette when it first came out. I listened to the first two songs on my Walkman, removed the cassette, then gave it to my Sister. I’ve always liked the name Was (Not Was). I don’t really know who they are.
And I found a four back of Jackie Chan DVDs!

Hopefully the quality is good and they don’t look like arse! meh, they’ll still be fun watches even if they do.
Oh yeah, and installing the faucet was a lot easier than trying to figure out what was wrong with the old one yesterday.
That Trainspotting is an excellent soundtrack. I replaced my CD copy of it with the 20th anniversary orange vinyl pressing a few years ago. As for not seeing it yet, you really need to remedy that. Excellent cast and fun film. Then, watch the sequel when you feel in the mood to face your own mortality. It is just as excellent but a bit depressing.

That is what Sarah has been telling me for the last 25 years. It is good but depressing. I get to it one day…

I went to one in college. Maybe one day but it’s a tall order as we all come from all around the world.

$2. I can’t find nothing that cheap in Australia. And a Tool CD, used, would for for at least $10.
Great shopping

If I was to go to a proper music store, any Tool CD would be around $10-15 here. But the mission thrift doesn’t price CDs individually. They’re all $2 no matter what they are.

Yeah that’s great that they do that. I was at one a few months ago and we have em at $3 except for the big bands. So whoever the person who runs the store considers a big band, they price em a bit higher.

Ha. Your building an musical empire Sir. Great review of Adrenalize lol. Two sentences and done! I have to start doing reviews that as well…
Neptune is a solid album. Northern Pikes always put out good product.

Northern Pikes > Def Leppard!

YOU ONLY LISTENED TO THE FIRST TWO SONGS ON ‘ADRENALIZE’ AND YOU STOPPED AFTER “HEAVEN IS”?!?! The album was just getting started and you didn’t even get to “Tonight” or “White Lightning”! Give it another listen and you might find a new appreciation for it. The only thing I know about ‘Animal House’ is that Mark Metcalf was in the video for Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Going to Take It” lol.

I was talking with Sarah yesterday, and it turns out I stopped the cassette during the thrid song, ‘Make Love Like A Man’ or something like that. The lyrics are so bad it sounded like he was making them up was he went. That explains my comment on Sarah’s post. It was an inside joke.
I ripped the Anrenalize onto our computer for Sarah and I listened to a bit more of it. I listened to White Lightning when John Snow did a post on it a while ago and I also gave High and Dry a spin like you suggested.
They’re just not for me. They sound like a lite, radio friendly version of AC/DC. I need the real deal. I thought my sister would like them so that’s why I gave her the cassette. I was right. She got right into them for a while.
You know more about Mark Metcalf than I do!

Yeah Sarah explained it was an inside joke because she likes Def Leppard, but you don’t. “Make Love Like A Man” is the worst song on the album.
Ooooh yay! Wait, so you didn’t like “White Lightning” or ‘High ‘n’ Dry’ then?
Fair enough! Speaking of AC/DC, what I like about them is that AC/DC kept their sound the same. Def Leppard didn’t and that’s why they lost a lot of their earlier fans.
LOL!

High and Dry is fine. Better than the other albums I have heard from them but it still didn’t blow me away. White Lightning didn’t do much for me. Def Leppard had to adapt to the ’90s sound and started cranking out the ballads. I think AC/DC was the only rock band that didn’t change in some way.

‘High ‘n’ Dry’ is a favorite for a lot of Def Leppard fans (except for the people that like their commercial sound better). Fair enough. Def Leppard isn’t for everyone. The change I’m talking about started around 1982-1983, when the band recorded ‘Pyromania’ and got rid of Pete Willis, one of the original guitarists. He and Steve Clark gave Def Leppard an edge. ‘Pyromania’ was still heavy, but it was more commercial and they took it a step too far with ‘Hysteria’ and got lost after that. To be fair, they had to get experimental after Rick Allen, their drummer, lost his left arm, but it seems like they were already heading down that commercial path regardless of his accident.
A lot of bands went through a rough time when the 90s happened. But Def Leppard started releasing ballads with ‘Hysteria.’ I like about half of the songs from that album.
Yep, AC/DC never changed their sound. That’s why I grew to love them. I hate change in case you couldn’t tell lol.

Oh, I know ballads were part of their deal in the ’80s. I was there for it, lol. But they went heavy on them in the ’90s. Two Steps Behind and another one… Heartbeat or something?… Both were getting radio play at the same time! At least that is how I remember it.

That’s right, you were there lol. Ah yes, “Two Steps Behind,” the one track that will be the death of me! Nah, but I never need to hear that one again. “Miss You In a Heartbeat” got airplay back then?

Yeah, it had a video and everything. I remember them being on the radio at the same time. It was hilarious because they were supposed to be this hard rock outfit and they turned into Chris De Burgh, lol

Dang, that’s crazy how huge that song was. I’m not a fan of Def Leppard doing a piano ballad, that and Joe Elliott with a beard and mustache is a no thank you for me!

lol, yeah. It was a hit for them when not many other bands from the ’80s were still on the charts.

That’s right, I didn’t think about that since the 90s was all about grunge. Like the 80s, it was either fit in with the times or disappear, unless you’re AC/DC.

Yep. AC/DC was the only exception.

They didn’t change their sound and created their own rules, which are reasons why the band is still successful so late in their career.

Great Southern Trendkill is my favorite, but I’m into a lot of extreme metal, and that’s their most extreme album. It’s got some great color on it too, like the acoustic Suicide Note Pt. 1 and the epic Floods (one of Dime’s best solos).

Yeah, I’m more about the groove when it comes to Pantera. Still, happy to add it to the collection. Maybe it will speak to me some day.
